Clusters of homestead gardeners (micro-farmers) are supported by trained and equipped mentors who live in the community providing training, mentorship, planting programmes, workshops and seedlings. Each mentor supports up to 50 homestead gardens, feeding 250 children daily.
In addition, for those micro-farmers that grow beyond their personal requirements, ACT will facilitate access to markets. All gardens are tracked on our GigaBite Guardian database system and we link micro-farmers to the online Open Food Network.
ACT works closely with the Future Farmers Foundation Trust, which nurtures young black emerging farmers. We select and train these Future Farmers as mentors in our NQF Level 2 certified Agro-Ecological Farming Practices course, then embed them into communities that are vulnerable.
